I had been encouraged by friends to give tattooing a chance for a long while, but I only decided to try it at the beginning of 2021. I bought my first set of coil machines, the cheapest ones in the market, in February and started studying as much as I could by myself as we were in lockdown and studios were closed. As I consumed all the interesting material internet provided me, I realised I could feel a conection forming between me and this art. I enjoyed it, the process, the creation, the challenge.
Although I had no real guidance or knowledge and had only practiced for a few weeks on fake skin (always vegan from the start!), I needed to know what it was like to tattoo on real skin, so I migrated to my own body and developed a lovely new hobby: tatooing myself. Many of the pictures in this gallery are actually self-tattoos (the bird on the wrist with flowers and leaves, the snake skeleton, the single needle lily flower and korean sentence, for instance).
Once I made my mind up about wanting to be a tattoo artist, take this seriously and turn this art into my profession for life, I enrolled in a private professional tattoo course, graduating at the end of July. It was a great experience, that taught me everything from the fundamentals to practice with real volunteers (also pictured in the gallery: the calf and the 2 in roman numerals tats). I learned a lot and felt confident to start working with clients. By the end of August I had started doing my first tattoos, mainly fine line and small sizes. Sometimes something bigger was requested. So far I've done different letterings, illustrations, blackwork, fine line and even some little colour.
I like to try a bit of everything, I believe that keeps the brain creative, but my real passion lies in a few particular styles: pointillism, fine line, micro-hyperrealism, single-needle and black work. From the pictures in the gallery above, I'd say the ones that represent my style better are the self-made bird on the wrist, the snake skeleton, the pointillism statue and the lily. I'd also mention the flower blooming made for a client, the numbers 13 and 3;33 in fine line and the little pointillism dragon.
